Friday 12th October  -  Daytime Programme:

 

To launch our festival, we’ve put together a truly exciting day of Short Films, all of which in their own way, reflect our theme ‘Love in the Time of Twitter’.   Don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet the film makers in person and talk to them about their work.

 

12:00 Buffet Lunch

 

1:00 – 2:40 Film: The innovative BBC Documentary

The Trouble with Love and Sex, followed by a talk and discussion about

the making of the film with its Director Zach Beattie.

 

2:40 – 3:00 Tea

 

3:00 – 4:00 The short-listed films from this year’s Relate short film competition, Love in the time of Twitter.

 

4:10 – 5:00 Comments from our Judges, announcement of the winners and presentation of the awards

 

5:30 – 6:30 Formal opening of the Film Festival. Wine & nibbles will be served.

Friday 12 October  -  Evening Programme:

 

After the formal opening of the festival, we move straight into action with our first feature film:

 

7:30  Blue Valentine  (15)

(Derek Cianfrance, 107 mins, 2010)

 

This emotionally gripping examination of a marriage on the rocks isn’t always easy to watch, but Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling give performances of unusual depth and power. A raw but beautiful picture of love uniting and dividing: tender, real and heartfelt.

Saturday 13th October 

 

Saturday brings three more fabulous feature films and an illuminating talk about modern relationships from acclaimed author of Couples, Kate Figes:

 

11:00 am -  our family movie,  DR SEUSS’ THE LORAX (U)

A 12 –year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams.  To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.  Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Danny DeVito are some of the voices.

Lesbian couple Jules and Nic have brought up their kids to have everything. The only thing they don’t have is a father figure so when their daughter reaches the age of 18, she goes in search of the sperm donor. Funny, smart and sexy, this pitch-perfect film features brilliant performances from its acclaimed cast and earned Annette Bening a Best Actress nomination.

Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week-long road trip through California’s wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle and the other is recovering from a messy divorce.  Starring Paul Giamatti and from the acclaimed director of The Descendents.
